Abstract

This study explores research on family involvement and family support for families of severe ASD students and suggests directions for future research. Using scoping review as one type of systematic literature review, a total of 37 studies were selected and analyzed in terms of research trend and themes. The findings suggested that the number of international studies was relatively small and parents of young children and school-aged students with ASD took part in the majority of research studies. Second, previous studies were categorized into three themes, including family-based intervention, family experiences, and family support. Most studies were related to family-based intervention and they employed a single-case research design. Based on these findings, practical implications and directions for future research were discussed.
